Code view in Web Designer

When I have an error in my report code and I click on the Code button that appears (see attached image) I get a loading message on the status bar but nothing else happens.

What can stop the code view from showing?

Is it possible to add this a my customers will need to design their own reports and will need access to this feature to do so?
