Appearance Conditions not working with java

Hi,
we are trying to use the java library in order to render reports that we successfully rendered through javascript.
We found that conditions set in the appearance properties of a field don't get evaluated.
Is tehre some specific action taht must be carried out in order to make it work just like in js? Any help is appreciated.
