Remote MSSQL access from Angular app

I'm trying to set up the report builder demo to get data from a remote mssql server, but I get the error:
An URL to the data adapter should be specified to get data from SQL database.
Please, read the manual for additional information.
Is there a way query a remove mssql server directly from an angular 8 application?
