syntax error in new data source

I am trying to create a new data source from an existing data source to create a chart consisting of aggregates.

On the results tab of the New Data Source wizard I click Add Result then select the column and function I want from the dropdown lists. It is given a name like 'AVG_BASE_PAY_VALUE.Avg'.

If I try to add this field to a report I see the following error on clicking preview:

'Reports.Report.DataSourceDataSource' does not contain a definition for 'AVG_BASE_PAY_VALUE'

The dictionary tree looks like this after creating the data source:

>Data Sources
>>NewDataSet
>>>ReportData
>>>>AVG_BASE_PAY_VALUE
>>>>Other Columns
>>ReportData
>>>DataSource
>>>>AVG_BASE_PAY_VALUE.Avg

I can send a screen shot if this isn't clear.

Yes, please send the screenshot and also please attach a report template (mrt file) of that report.
