I think the answer is "No", but I ask anyway:

Is there a way to e.g. make a table width "100%" instead of "xxx Pixels", so that it resizes with the html page? Or to make two containers side by side, where one has a fixed width and the other one resizes to the width of the rendered html?

Yes, you are right. In the current version of the report engine, containers and text components are exported with fixed 'pixel' sizes. Per cent settings are not available in the current version.
