When exporting a rendered report to Excel XML using the Web viewer HTML controls, the file is saved with a .xls extension. When this file is opened in Excel (I'm running Excel 2007, v12.0.6665.5003, for reference), I see a warning dialog box with the following message:

"The file you are trying to open, 'Report.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"

Clicking the Yes button successfully opens the file in Excel.

Is there a way to get rid of this warning when saving files from the Web viewer? Also, if programmatically exporting to this Excel XML format, what is the appropriate file extension to use to avoid this warning?

Hello.

If the file will be exported with xml extension then there could be a problem with opening it. The xml-files is often opening with other program then Excel. So It's better to press Yes button rather than the file will be opened in Internet Explorer by double clicking on it.
