Image variables aren't working

I can't seem to completely define an image variable in the Designer application. In the variable definition panel, once I select image from the dropdown list then click on open, nothing happens...

Unfortunately, on current moment it is not supported.

Is there any other way I can embed images into the report or can I only get them through reference?

Hello.
You could add image on the page and attache the image in editor.

In this case the image will be stored in report template.
