Pivot Table Oddities

I have a question about pivot tables.
Referring to the attached picture. The top table is a straight table just there to show what the data looks like.

With the middle pivot table I've simply placed all the measures into the Summary section of the pivot leaving rows/columns blank. This looks ok as it's simply listing the labels down the first column of the pivot with a sum of all values the next column.

If i then add month name to the columns section of the pivot it then looks like the bottom table. so the values are correct and it has pivoted them around the month parameter which is fine, but why are the labels now all listed on the one line and the row labels now 1,2,3 etc. This looks super daggy and really makes it un-usable. Why doesn't it look like the middle table but have three columns for the values indicating the pivot for each of the values for the month?

i'm not following your screen shot shows the exact issue i'm talking about.
Why in the bottom pivot table does it have the titles end to end instead of on top of each other like the first pivot table?
