WebViewerSL printing landscape

Post by J_S »

Hi,

When I want to print a report in landscape from the WebViewerSL, the printer prints in default mode (not landscape).

In the report designer, I enabled the landscape mode.

Regards

Hello,

You need to set the landscape orientation in the printing dialog too. Because of the big limitations of Silverlight, now there are many problems that we cannot fix. In Silverlight 5 it is promised to improve printing. When it is released we will check what can be improved.

Thank you.

Ok thank you, let's hope Microsoft delivers what they are promising then...

In the meantime, maybe you could rotate the image so the document will be printed as it should?

Hello,

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately we cannot add such a check because if an end user sets the Landscape orientation in the PrintDialog, then Silverlight itself will change the orientation and the algorithm is not necessary. So, if you need to use landscape you should set it in in the PrintDialog.

Thank you.

WebViewerSL printing landscape

I am using latest commercial version (Reports.Ultimate 2012.1), i tested both Siverlight 4 and Siverlight 5 version of Stimulsoft.Report.Viewer.SL.dll and I am having same problem. My newly developed application contains about 20 different reports, half of them are in landscape orientation and rest is in portrait orientation. I am preparing to publish a Silverlight version which should replace earlier WinForms version. My WinForms version was compiled with WinForms Stimulsoft and users were very happy, because it printed everything without any problems.
I don't know how to explain to hundreds of users, that BEFORE they print any report, they must visit printer setup dialog, find where are UI controls for paper orientation and change paper orientation according to paper size they see in preview window. My user base is mostly "very basic users", which are afraid to work with complicated printer setup dialogs. Even a hotfix or "hack" would be welcome, because users will flood me with helpdesk messages about wrong printing on half of reports.
Thank you.

Hello,

We understand all of your discomfort, that to perform the desired action, you should open a menu and change something. Unfortunately, Silverlight is very cut down in compare with WinForms version. And we just cannot do what you ask. We have limited in capabilities that Microsoft gives us.
We are happy to help you, but do not have any idea yet how this can be done. We spent a lot of time to study this issue. Any ideas from you will be much appreciated here in this topic. If there is any, really working staff, then we are happy to implement it.

Thank you.
