Designer.exe doesn't fill my user items for my user variable

Hello.

I am trying to fill the items list of a variable automatically from the DB so that the user can select values from a multi-check-dropdown control in the MVC viewer.
I select the id column of my table as a key and the title column as a value, but hen I click OK it doesn't retrieve them.
The items remain as [Not Assigned].
Am I doing anything wrong?

Ah!
OK. I got it.
I have used DataColumns instead of Items and now it works.
But I wonder what is this UI (that I have above) for.
