Barcode always printed

I'm using the barcode component (code 128a) and i see that if i pass a string "" (or a null string) a barcode is always printed (i've tried to read it with a scanner but nothing is read). I don't want to use formulas or conditions: can you do something with it? I'm using version 2008.2.247.0. Thank you.

Using 5 January 2009 version with Engine V2 i see that the problem is still there:

This is with code128a and AutoScale=True, but happens also in other conditions.

The field database value is "".
