Report Chart handling big datasets

Hello,
on my Report I'm displaying a Line Series chart. When working with large datasets the rendering of the report becomes very slow making it unuseful.
I don't need interactivity on my chart. I just want to adjust my dataset size from code, based on the chart X axis.

What are best practices regarding Charts & big datasets.

Could you specify which version of our product do you use?
How large is your dataset?
Recently there were made some optimizations of chart rendering.

I'm using version 2014.1.1900.0.
What do you suggest if I want to manually filter the data based od the configuration of the X axis?

well for example the density of the data is much more than can fit on the X axis based on graph's width
