HTML5 designer vs Flash

Post by jay@bplogix.com »

I am confused as to which designer and viewer to use. Is the HTML 5 designer the "mobile" designer? Are there any limitations / differences between the flash designer and the HTML 5 designer?

If my users are on PCs using the latest IE or Chrome browsers, do you recommend using the HTML 5 designer or the Flash designer?

Same with the viewer ... are there feature differences between the flash, HTML, and HTML 5 versions? Is the HTML 5 viewer the "mobile" viewer?

If my users are on PCs using the latest IE or Chrome browsers, do you recommend using the HTML 5 viewer or the Flash viewer or the HTML viewer?

Thanks

Hello,
I am confused as to which designer and viewer to use. Is the HTML 5 designer the "mobile" designer? Are there any limitations / differences between the flash designer and the HTML 5 designer?
Yes, the HTML5 designer is now called StiMobileDesigner. The Flash Designer is called StiWebDesigner. In the nearest future we plan to change the names of the components that would be more understandable for our users.
If my users are on PCs using the latest IE or Chrome browsers, do you recommend using the HTML 5 designer or the Flash designer?
The HTML5 designer is more promising. We are constantly improving it, adding new features. It has more themes to work on mobile devices. The Flash Designer is an older component.
Same with the viewer ... are there feature differences between the flash, HTML, and HTML 5 versions? Is the HTML 5 viewer the "mobile" viewer?
We recommend using StiMobileViewer that will soon be integrated with the HTML viewer into a single universal component. The Flash viewer also has its advantages - the animation speed of viewing the report.
If my users are on PCs using the latest IE or Chrome browsers, do you recommend using the HTML 5 viewer or the Flash viewer or the HTML viewer?
We recommend using StiMobileViewr (HTML5).

Thank you.

Thanks for the response.

Does the HTML 5 designer support all of the features of the flash designer?

Is there a document somewhere that shows the differences in which features are supported between the designers and the viewers (flash, HTML, HTML 5)? There seems to be differences in areas such as drill-downs on charts, support for hyperlinks, sort-able columns, calculated columns, etc.). Otherwise I will find out when my users complain about missing functionality.

thx

Hello.

Unfortunately, not all features are available in HTML5 Designer. But we are working on its improvement.
You could find the difference of our components in the Features: Stimulsoft Reports section of Stimulsoft User Manual.

Thank you.

One item I cannot find in the HTML 5 designer is the ability to create a Datasource from other Datasource. We use this commonly to create a new datasource that groups and totals columns in other datasources. How is this done in the HTML 5 designer?

Hello.

Maybe the Data Source from other Data Source was added in later build.
Please, check our latest prerelease build.

I am unable to use prerelease builds because this is for a production application. I also notice that things like adding Hyperlinks on objects are also not supported. Is there a release schedule for the HTML 5 builder? We just need to know when the features will be made available so we can transition off the Flash designer.
Thanks
