Date variables

When using a variable for a Date the variable shows in the report as a kind of DateTimePicker.
To the left of the Picker there's a checkbox, to the right there's an arrow which can open a list with dates from our table/query.

Where can we find documentation about the use of this kind of variable? What is the function of the checkbox?
Do you have some report-samples where this kind of variable is used?

We would also appreciate if you could show us some filter/expression -samples with date-variables.
