export from code versus export from viewer

I'm just looking for some ideas where to start looking for a solution for the following problem.

We are working with wpf 2011.1.
I have a report that is rendered from code and exported as a PDF and contains a watermark. Nothing wrong with this PDF. We have a nice watermark in it.
We also have the option of rendering the same report with the same data and open it with the viewer. At this point the watermark is displayed as a grey area. ( and ofcourse the pdf also contains the grey area )

So it seems like when we use the viewer.... our report is not correctly rendered.

Any ideas?
